News Release - First Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Site Certified in NW Consumers and businesses have a new option to recycle unwanted computers, TVs and other equipment in Thunder Bay THUNDER BAY – Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) has launched an ambitious program that over the next five years will divert an additional 160,000 tonnes of waste electronics such as computers and televisions away from landfills and into reuse and recycling solutions.
The industry-developed and operated Waste Electronic and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) program is setting up a network of collection sites where consumers and businesses can drop off unwanted electronics with assurance that they will be recycled according to established North American environmental standards.
Pack Pros Plus Ltd is the first collection site in Northwestern Ontario to be certified by OES. The depot is located at 1439 Rosslyn Road in Thunder Bay
. Its hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Starting immediately, consumers and businesses can drop material off at the depot free of charge.
The OES WEEE program shares consumer branding under the Do What You Can banner with the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) program, which was launched in January. The aim of both industry-run programs is to divert more waste from disposal in Ontario landfill sites. Consumers can learn more at an interactive website, www.dowhatyoucan.ca.
